Students seeking certification should consult with the discipline coordinator as early as possible to make certain they meet certification requirements as well as those set by the university for graduation. In addition to the program of courses outlined below, the state provides alternative pathways to teacher certification. Contact the discipline coordinator for more information about these programs.

Other state requirements include educational psychology (including human growth and development), history and/or philosophy of education, and the psychology of exceptional children. Requirements for students seeking environmental science teaching certification in chemistry are the same as those for emphasis 2.

Successful completion of the course of study for emphasis 4 fulfills the requirements for a minor in biological sciences.
