Special requirements


After completion of ARTD 273 and ARTD 275, students must successfully complete a portfolio review in order to be retained in the time arts area of study.

Photography


Special requirements


A portfolio review is required for retention in the photography area of study after completing two courses in photography in the School of Art at NIU. A minimum GPA of 3.00 in all 300- and 400-level courses in this area of study is required for graduation. Prior to admission into ARTD 406 a student must confirm that the above minimum GPA has been met.

Special requirements


The student must successfully complete a portfolio review after ARTD 201 and have a minimum GPA of 3.00 in the following courses for graduation. Prior to admission into ARTD 406, a student must confirm that the above minimum GPA requirement has been met.

Students must successfully complete a review of their senior project during ARTD 406.

Recommendation


Students are encouraged to select ANTH 220 and PSYC 102 toward fulfillment of the social science requirements in the general education program.

Art electives should be chosen in consultation with faculty area advisor.

Emphasis 2. Fine Arts–2-D Studio


A portfolio review is required for retention in this emphasis after completion of designated courses in the chosen area of study.

The student must successfully complete a sophomore portfolio review in drawing after the following courses.

Special requirement


Portfolio review after ARTS 328 (including work of ARTS 327) to continue in the illustration area of study.

Watercolor Painting

Special requirement


The student must successfully complete a sophomore portfolio review in painting after the following courses.

Special requirement


Successful completion of a portfolio review in printmaking after two classes in the printmaking area to continue as a B.F.A. in this area of study.

Emphasis 3. Fine Arts–3-D Studio


A portfolio review is required for admission to or retention in this emphasis after completion of two courses in the chosen area of study.

Metalwork and Jewelry


Special requirement:

Successful completion of a portfolio review in metalwork and jewelry after ARTS 351 and ARTS 352 to continue in this area of study.

Special requirement

The student must successfully complete a sophomore portfolio review in sculpture after the following courses.
