Return to Undergraduate Programs Return to: Undergraduate Programs

The Black studies minor presents an interdisciplinary body of knowledge that examines the histories and cultures of African Americans with an appreciation for the historical, social, and political influences of Africa and the African Diaspora.  Among other requirements students must analyze racism and its present-day manifestations in order to promote better understanding among ethnic and racial groups. Several university departments participate in the minor in Black studies including anthropology, economics, geographic and atmospheric sciences, history, political science, and sociology. A maximum of 9 semester hours may be applied toward the minor from any one department with the exception of Black Studies (BKST) courses.
