Master of Science in Sport Management

This 36-semester-hour program is designed to prepare students for a management career in the sport industry. Students attain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in preparation for various sport managerial careers in athletic and sport clubs, interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics, professional and amateur sports, equipment merchandising, and sport consulting.

Non-Thesis Option

Electives with approval of graduate program adviser (6)
One graduate-level research methodology course approved by adviser (3)
Course work from the College of Business selected in consultation with adviser (6)

LESM 538 - Managing the Sport Enterprise Credits: 3
LESM 539 - Sport and the Law Credits: 3
LESM 542 - Sport Promotions Credits: 3
LESM 543 - Seminar in Sport Management Credits: 3
LESM 544 - Sport Finance Credits: 3
LESM 586 - Internship in Sport Management Credits: 1-6
OR LESM elective with approval of graduate program adviser Credits: 3
LESM 598 - Master’s Paper Credits: 3
OR
LESM 599B - Master’s Project Credits: 1-3
Students must take LESM 599B for 3 semester hours.

Thesis Option

Same requirements as the non-thesis option except that LESM 599A, Master’s Thesis (6), and one 3-semester-hour graduate-level course in quantitative or qualitative analytical techniques approved by the adviser are taken in place of LESM 598 (3) or LESM 599B (3) and the electives (6).
