COUN 568 - Psychopharmacology for Counselors


Introduction to how drugs act on the brain and nervous system to affect mood, thinking, and behavior. Commonly prescribed drugs for adults and children in the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders will be discussed. Skills for exploring client treatment goals regarding pharmacotherapy will be practiced, as will collaboration with prescribers to support client care. Prescription and illicit drugs will be studied. Social and cultural issues related to psychopharmacology will be explored.
