The School of Rehabilitation and Performance Sciences offers a major in nutrition sciences (B.S.). In addition, the school offers minors in nutrition, health, and wellness; and rehabilitation counseling.
NIU’s Nutrition Sciences major prepares students to advance health and wellbeing through food and nutrition in clinical, community, public health, industry, and food systems settings. The program provides a strong foundation in human biology, chemistry, and nutrition, paired with hands-on learning in food labs, community outreach, and health promotion. Students can tailor the degree to their interests through flexible electives and may choose the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) pathway to prepare for a dietetic internship and the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential.
A minor in rehabilitation counseling when paired with a health focused major prepares students for graduate work in rehabilitation counseling or occupational therapy.
Graduates are well-prepared for careers in community and public health nutrition, wellness programming, food systems and management, nutrition policy, or the food and nutrition industry, as well as for advanced study in health-related fields.
