Kinesiology (B.S.)

All students pursuing the B.S. degree with a major in kinesiology must choose the emphasis in athletic training or the emphasis in exercise science and are required to have a university GPA of 2.50 or above and to have satisfactorily completed all required course work prior to the culminating internship, KNPE 494.

Emphasis 1. Athletic Training (50-51)


The emphasis in athletic training reflects the requirements of the CAATE, and students who want to sit for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (BOC) examination must complete this emphasis. Current policies and procedures regarding eligibility for the BOC examination are available in the program director’s office.

Admission to the emphasis in athletic training is competitive and limited. University admission does not necessarily constitute eligibility for admission into this area of study. Admission policies are described in the “Limited Admissions and Limited Retention Requirements” section of this catalog.

Retention in the program requires a 2.50 GPA in the major. Students enrolled in the athletic training emphasis may be dismissed from the program for academic reasons or for unprofessional behavior or actions that threaten the health and safety of others. It is the responsibility of students to secure a copy of the Athletic Training Student Manual which describes the policies of the program. Students are required to adhere to all current policies and procedures.
