The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) is an entry-level degree that prepares individuals for professional practice in the area of audiology. The program of study is designed to meet the minimum academic and clinical requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and state licensure, expose students to basic and applied research, provide practical and research experience, and develop skills in the use of evidence-based practice.

To be assured consideration for admission to the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program, prospective students must submit all required documentation to Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS) and the Graduate School portals no later than January 15 for summer admission. Applicants will be required to submit a resume/curriculum vitae, submit three letters of recommendation, and answer three essay questions in the CSDCAS application portal. Graduate Records Examination (GRE) scores are not required and will not be evaluated. Only applicants with an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater will be considered. When students accept their admission offer, they will be asked to enter into a matriculation agreement with NIU. The agreement requires a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold a spot in the program. The amount of the deposit will be applied to the first year’s tuition unless the agreement is broken, which will result in forfeiture of the deposit. The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) Program has guaranteed admission for any Communicative Disorders (COMD) major who earns Associate University Honors with a capstone or Full University Honors and graduates with a cumulative 3.3 GPA. Through a combination of intensive on-campus classroom/clinical experiences and off-campus rotations, students in the Au.D. program graduate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and training to make an impactful difference in the lives of people with hearing and balance disorders across the lifespan.

Grading Policies
Students must make satisfactory progress in audiology graduate courses. Retention in the program requires adherence to Graduate School and audiology program requirements and regulations. Please refer to the Graduate School “General Regulations” and the NIU Audiology Student Handbook and Clinical Education Manual.
