Vision Studies (12-18)

Certificate of Graduate Study

This certificate is designed for vision educators and vision rehabilitation professionals seeking additional competencies in teaching people with visual impairments. It is recommended that students be licensed or certified in at least one of the following: teacher of students with visual impairments (TVI), Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for People with Visual Impairments (CATIS), Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT), and/or Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT). Students must select from one of the strands below.

Assistive Technology for People with Visual Impairments (9)

SEVI 596 - Seminar in Assistive Technology for the Workforce Readiness of Persons with Visual Impairments Credits: 3
SEVI 585D - Internship in Assistive Technology for Persons with Visual Impairments Credits: 1-12
Students must take 9 credit hours in this course.

Orientation and Mobility (18)

SEVI 530 - Basic Orientation and Mobility for Teachers of Persons with Visual Impairments Credits: 3
SEVI 570 - Advanced Orientation and Mobility Credits: 3-6
Students must take 6 credit hours in this course.
SEVI 571 - Principles of Orientation and Mobility Techniques for Learners with Visual and Multiple Impairments Credits: 3
SEVI 585C - Internship in Orientation and Mobility Instruction of Persons with Visual Impairments Credits: 1-12
Students must take 6 credit hours in this course.

Vision Rehabilitation Specialist (15)

SEVI 543 - Teaching Activities of Daily Living to Persons with Visual and Multiple Disabilities Credits: 3
