Students in this major may combine interests in communicative disorders with preparation for advanced study in fields such as speech-language pathology, audiology, medical sciences, dentistry, physical or occupational therapy, community health, physiology, psychology, linguistics, education, rehabilitation counseling or law.
Undergraduate Admission to the Master’s Program in Speech-Language Pathology
Seven seats in the master’s program in speech-language pathology are reserved for the first seven incoming freshman COMD University Honors students who accept admission to NIU, and meet the stated program criteria and requirements.
Three seats in the master’s program in speech-language pathology are reserved for the first three incoming COMD University Honors transfer students from the College of DuPage with speech-language pathology assistant associate degrees and Illinois licensure.
Program criteria and requirements for both programs are available from the NIU University Honors Program and the Communicative Disorders program. Students who are accepted in this program will receive a separate letter from the communicative disorders program informing them that their seat in the master’s program in speech-language pathology has been reserved. To maintain their seat reservation, students must email the school chair confirming receipt of the program letter within 2 weeks of receiving the admission letter for admission to the master’s program in speech-language pathology.
Undergraduate Admission to the Doctorate Program in Audiology
Three seats in the doctorate in audiology are reserved for the first three incoming freshman COMD University Honors students who accept admission to NIU and meet the stated program criteria and requirements.
This program is not available to students who already have an undergraduate degree and are not available to NIU undergraduate students who declared a COMD major or who were admitted to the honors program after the first day of fall classes Freshman year.
These programs are not available to honors transfer students who are not licensed SLPAs from the College of DuPage, students who already have an undergraduate degree, and are not available to NIU undergraduate students who declared a COMD major or who were admitted to the honors program after the first day of fall classes Freshman year.
