Emphasis 4. Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability Engineering Technology


Employers used to separately hire each of the following: enivoronmental environmental specialists, workplace health specialists (industrial hygienists), safety specialists, and sustainability specialists. No more. EHSS graduates are generalists who can understand and apply knowledge and skills across all of these related disciplines. These graduates have broad career flexibility and are in high demand with excellent starting salaries.

Emphasis 5. Applied Manufacturing Technology


This area of study is limited to transfer students with an Associate’s with a major in a recognized technical area. With the approval of the NIU Department of Engineering Technology advisor and chair, up to 43 hours of proficiency credit, which includes up to 9 hours of upper-level credit, can be used towards the 120-semester hour total and 40-semester-hour upper-level university graduation requirements. Students will need to provide evidence of credit hour equivalences for Computer Aided Design, and Basic Manufacturing or Machining Processes.





Students in this emphasis are exempt from the 30-semester-hour university residence requirement. All students in this emphasis must obtain a grade of C or better in MATH 155 and all majors must meet NIU’s requirements for general education (29-41 hours).
