The Certificate of Undergraduate Study in Latino and Latin American Studies provides students with knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the Latinx experience in the United States. The certificate is designed for students interested in examining the history, culture, language, literature, politics, and economy of Latin America and the Caribbean and Latinx communities in the United States. It prepares future teachers to lecture in Latino and Latin American Studies and provides them with knowledge of the cultural heritage of their Latinx students. The certificate also provides other future professionals with knowledge to maximize their job performance in fields with Latin American connections and in regions with significant Latinx populations. Latinx students who pursue the certificate acquire a broader understanding of their history and culture.

Required (3)


Students may choose to take LATS 100 or LATS 101 as their core course in the certificate. The other may be taken as an elective.
