GEOL 735 - Soil Mechanics

Mechanical behavior of soils (unconsolidated earth materials) and use in geotechnical and environmental engineering. Engineering classification of soils, Atterberg limits, field and laboratory testing methods, consolidation and compaction, foundation performance, liquefaction, piping, slope stability, seismic response, and importance of soil mechanics in solid waste disposal. Case histories and problem solving.

Prerequisites & Notes
PRQ: GEOL 325, MATH 230, PHYS 250, or PHYS 250A, or consent of department.
