HIST 552 - Empire and Nation in Modern Britain


Examines interaction between empire and nation in Britain from the 18th century to the present. Themes to be discussed include the impact of the “New British History” on how we view the British past, the relationship between industrialization and imperial expansion, the gendering of nation and empire, and the impact of decolonization on evolving notions of British identity.
