PHIL 403 - Philosophy of Mathematics


Problems in the interpretation of mathematics, e.g., the philosophical importance of non-Euclidean geometries, the arithmetization of analysis, Godel’s incompleteness theorem, and such general philosophies of mathematics as formalism, intuitionism, and logicism. Readings from such philosophers as Kant, Frege, Russell, Poincare, and Quine.

Prerequisites & Notes
PRQ: 6 semester hours of philosophy at the 300 level or consent of department.
