Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences offers a B.S. degree which can be used to prepare for graduate studies in the biological sciences and to gain licensure to teach general science and biology at the middle school and high school levels. It has been designed so students can conveniently obtain a minor in chemistry. A departmental honors program is available for outstanding students.

The department also offers a minor in biological sciences and several courses that can be used by non-majors toward fulfilling the science area requirement in the university’s general education program. In addition, courses offered by the department are required in several majors across the university and in the interdisciplinary minor in environmental studies. Students in preprofessional health-related programs are required to have course work in the biological sciences. Students interested in pursuing such careers should seek assistance early in their studies from a pre-professional advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. (See “Pre-professional Studies.”)
