ANTH 512 - Native North America


Overview of the archaeology of indigenous lifeways in the continental United States and Canada, from the initial arrival of the first Americans to encounters with European colonizers to impacts on Native communities today. Approached from a comparative archaeological perspective with case studies addressing subsistence, settlement, ecology, social and political complexity, material culture, and religion. Emphasis on ethical issues and how to conduct archaeology within a decolonizing framework.
